Gutters in Reddick, FL
NOAA Atlas 14 puts a 10-year, five-minute downpour at Reddick at 9.65 inches an hour, while Marion County's climate station in Ocala, 15 miles south, logs 51.64 inches of rain in an average year. A gutter is sized for the first number, not the second, and at that rate a modest roof face can outrun a single downspout.

Sizing
Two rain rates and one Reddick roof
Take a 1,500-square-foot roof face, measured flat. At Reddick's burst rate of 9.65 inches an hour, it sheds about 151 gallons a minute, using the published conversion of 96.15 square feet per gallon a minute at an inch an hour. On the plumbing code's 100-year, one-hour rate for Reddick, 4.06 inches an hour, the same face sheds about 63. The burst figure is 2.4 times the hourly one.
- One 3-inch round downspout, rated at 92 gallons a minute: enough on the hourly basis, not for the burst.
- Two 3-inch round downspouts, or one 4-inch round rated at 192: enough for the burst.
- One 6-inch half-round gutter at an eighth-inch slope carries 110 gallons a minute, so at the burst rate that face needs two runs or an 8-inch section, rated at 247.
That is our arithmetic on code tables and NOAA data, not a code requirement, and pitched roofs add more: gutter makers raise the design area by 5 to 30 percent depending on slope. Ask any installer which rate a gutter plan is sized to.
Code and care
Materials, hangers and leaf season in Reddick
Gutters are required only on buildings with eaves under 6 inches, but where they go up, Florida's residential code wants metal or approved plastic, lapped, soldered or caulked joints, and fasteners that resist corrosion and match the gutter (R903.4.2). On the 64.8 percent of Reddick's 335 homes built before 2000, check the fascia board whenever an old gutter comes off.
For cleaning, Tower Hill, a Florida home insurer, says twice a year at minimum, spring and fall, with extra rounds under overhanging trees. UF/IFAS timing helps pick the dates: Florida's pollen season runs January to June and peaks in March and April, and pine needle fall is heaviest from September through November.

Rain on your roof
Preset: 6.27 inches, the 10-year 24-hour rain (NOAA Atlas 14 at Reddick).
7,812 gallons run off that roof, all of it toward the gutters and downspouts.
Math: square feet × inches × 0.623 gallons.
Questions
Gutters in Reddick: questions
Do I need a permit to install gutters in Reddick?
Ask the permitting office before you start. Florida's building code requires a permit to construct, alter or repair a building and lets the building official approve ordinary minor repairs without one (FBC-Building 105.1 and 105.2.2), so the answer depends on the office and the job. For Reddick, the town's website does not say which office issues permits inside town limits, and Marion County Building Safety's pages could not be read, so start with the Town of Reddick.

How do gutters hold up in a Reddick hurricane?
It depends on how they are hung and what they hang on. One hidden-hanger maker lists 24 inches on center as standard spacing and recommends 16 inches, with clips, for storm-prone areas to resist uplift. FEMA's Hurricane Michael advisory found widespread wind damage to building envelope parts and tells builders to fasten soffits at the wall and the fascia, the board gutters hang from, so a sound fascia matters as much as the hangers. Marion County's storms bring gusts like Nicole's 36 knots at the Ocala airport, so check hangers and fascia before June.

Where should Reddick downspouts drain?
At least a foot from the wall. Florida's residential code requires downspouts to discharge at least 1 foot from the building's sidewall, through underground pipe, a tail extension or a splash block (R318.5, repeated in FBC-Building 1503.7), as part of its termite-protection rules. Volume is the reason to go farther: NOAA Atlas 14 puts a 10-year, 24-hour storm at Reddick at 6.27 inches, practically the same as its 6.26 for Ocala, and all of it leaves through the downspouts.
