The code edition that governs new roofs in Oldsmar

  • A membrane or tape strip over every deck joint, then an approved underlayment, or
  • Two layers of approved felt underlayment fastened to the code spacing.

Drip edge at the eaves and gables must be fastened at the spacing the code sets, and that spacing tightens where design wind speeds are higher.

Statewide, roofing products must carry product approval under a mandatory category. Check each product's approval number on the Florida Building Commission product approval search before the permit is issued, and keep the approval on file for the inspector.

Florida law requires a Notice of Commencement to be recorded and posted before the first inspection, so have it ready before the roof work begins.

Under Florida law, a builder must back a newly built home for one year against construction defects that break the Florida Building Code. The statute excludes normal wear, settling, owner-caused defects and natural disasters.
