Gutters in Boca Raton, FL
NOAA Atlas 14 gives the center of Boca Raton a 10-year, 5-minute downpour of 10.9 inches an hour, near the 11.3 given for the West Palm Beach point, the top of the ten Florida points in our rainfall table. A Boca Raton gutter is sized for that burst, and its downspouts must drop water at least a foot from the wall.

Local know-how
Boca Raton rain, from a 5-minute burst to a 100-year day
The same Atlas 14 point gives 12.9 inches an hour for a 25-year, 5-minute burst and 16 for a 100-year one. Over 24 hours, a 10-year storm leaves 9.06 inches and a 100-year storm 16.2. Measured year by year, the West Palm Beach airport station averages 61.75 inches, and 67.3% of it arrives from May through October.
Code and hardware
Gutter rules and hardware for Boca Raton homes
Where a Boca Raton house has eaves shorter than 6 inches, R318.5 requires gutters and downspouts, gable-end rakes and lower roofs under an upper roof aside. That section also fixes where the water lands: a foot or more from the sidewall, carried by pipe, extension or splash block.
Under R903.4.2, the gutter itself is metal or an approved plastic made for outdoor exposure, its joints lapped, soldered or caulked, and its fasteners corrosion-resistant and of a compatible metal. That pairing matters near the coast, since FEMA finds metal corrosion is most pronounced within 3,000 feet of the ocean.
The median Boca Raton home dates to 1983, so look at the fascia before new gutters go up; a soft board will not hold a hanger.

Rain on your roof
Preset: 9.06 inches, the 10-year 24-hour rain (NOAA Atlas 14 at Boca Raton).
11,289 gallons run off that roof, all of it toward the gutters and downspouts.
Math: square feet × inches × 0.623 gallons.
Questions
Gutters in Boca Raton: questions
Do half-round gutters suit Mediterranean-style Boca Raton homes?
They can, if they are sized for the rain. Many Boca Raton buildings follow the Mediterranean Revival or Spanish Colonial Revival style, and half-round is one of the profiles the plumbing code rates by diameter: a 5-inch half-round carries 74 gallons a minute at 1/8-inch slope and a 6-inch carries 110, about 49% more. In a 10.9-inch-an-hour burst, that extra capacity is the difference on a long roof face. Copper or aluminum both meet the code's metal requirement, with fasteners of a compatible metal.

Do you need a contractor's license to install gutters in Boca Raton?
Florida's answer is not settled in one place. The state rule for specialty structure contractors lists siding, soffit, fascia and gutters in that license scope (Fla. Admin. Code R. 61G4-15.015), yet local practice differs, and some counties license gutter work while others do not. Roofing contractors may also repair or replace fascia as part of roof work (Fla. Stat. 489.105(3)(e)). For a Boca Raton address, the city's Building Permits and Inspections office can say whether the job needs a permit.

When do Boca Raton gutters fill up fastest?
In spring and after storms. UF/IFAS says Florida's pollen season runs January to June and peaks in March and April, with oaks, pines and melaleucas among the big producers, and pine needles fall heaviest from September through November. Tower Hill, a Florida home insurer, recommends cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, and more often under trees. A clean run before the wet season matters here, since 67.3% of the year's rain at the West Palm Beach airport falls May through October.
