Gutters in Hollywood, FL
NOAA's Atlas 14 gives Hollywood's Census point a 10-year, 24-hour rainfall of 8.96 inches and a 10-year, five-minute rate of 10.9 inches an hour. On a city of 1960s houses, gutters have to handle that burst while hanging on fascia boards that have taken decades of weather.

Local know-how
Hollywood's burst rain and gutter capacity
The 100-year five-minute rate at the same point is 16.1 inches an hour, and the hourly rates run from 3.6 inches in a 10-year storm to 5.66 in a 100-year one. The April 12, 2023 storm that flooded parts of Hollywood put 6.15 inches on the airport gauge in a single hour.

Fascia and downspouts on Hollywood houses
Gutters hang on the fascia, so the board behind them has to be sound. Florida's contractor rules let a roofer repair or replace fascia as needed during roof repair or replacement, and a soft or stained board on a house from the city's 1969 median year should be fixed before new gutters go up.
Downspouts must discharge at least 1 foot from the wall, by underground pipe, extension or splash block (R318.5; FBC-B 1503.7). After the April 2023 flooding, aim them at ground that drains away from the house and keep them clear of doorways.

Rain on your roof
Preset: 8.96 inches, the 10-year 24-hour rain (NOAA Atlas 14 at Hollywood).
11,164 gallons run off that roof, all of it toward the gutters and downspouts.
Math: square feet × inches × 0.623 gallons.
Questions
Gutters in Hollywood: questions
Are 5-inch gutters big enough for Hollywood rain?
For a small drainage area, yes; for a big one, step up. Florida's plumbing code rates a 5-inch half-round gutter at a 1/8-inch slope at 74 gallons a minute and a 6-inch at 110, about 49 percent more. If you size for Hollywood's 25-year, five-minute burst of 12.9 inches an hour, the 5-inch serves about 550 square feet of roof plan area and the 6-inch about 820. That 25-year rate sits between the 10.9-inch, 10-year burst and the 16.1-inch, 100-year one at the same NOAA point. More downspouts cut the area each run has to carry.

What hangers hold gutters on a Hollywood house near the beach?
Closer-spaced ones in corrosion-resistant metal. One hidden-hanger maker lists 24 inches on center as its standard spacing but recommends its clip option, aluminum for salt air and 16-inch spacing for added uplift resistance in coastal and storm-prone areas. FEMA's coastal guidance says metal corrosion is worst within 3,000 feet of the ocean, and Hollywood has about 5 to 6 miles of Atlantic beach, so keep hangers, fasteners and gutters in compatible metals on the city's eastern blocks.

When should Hollywood gutters be cleaned?
Before the wet season and after the fall needle drop, at a minimum. The airport station's normals put 71.9 percent of yearly rain between May and October, UF/IFAS says Florida's pollen season peaks in March and April, and a Florida insurer's guidance is to clean at least twice a year and more under trees. Hollywood holds 9.5 percent of its housing for seasonal or occasional use, so if you leave for the summer, have the gutters cleared on the way out rather than when you come back.
